so i want to make my own washing detergent

ive seen a few recipies, one has borax and the other has ammonia

id like to know which is less toxic?

they both sound nasty to me even though on the container of borax it says non-toxic and i think i read somewhere that ppl eat it for osteoporosis (!)

also keen to hear your own tried and tested recipies too please :D

*am thinking ill just use this mix on my and hubbys clothes for a start; we use purity for the boys clothes atm

i made one with borax and hated it, it took forever to make (had to grate the soap) the soap never disolved properly (this was for a powder) in the wash and it just didnt work and worked out no cheaper realy. i would much rather just buy an eco friendly one.

I don't use borax in mine cos it seems to be nasty stuff, just washing soda, soap and water and some essential oils. I make a liquid though.

I made the borax one once. It had to be cooked and turned into a big pot of slime. All the whites went grey. I'll stick to Omo.

and does it work ok m2b? do you use it on everything - the boys clothes, whites, darks etc?
and how much ess oils did you add, and to what amount of liquid?

eek thats no good, i wonder if we can buy an 'optical brightener' as i read that on the ingrediants of my purity bottle, which has borax in it btw!!! was thinking borax would be too nasty to use on the baby/boys clothes but seems im already using it >.<

im leaning towards the powdered version as i cbb with the potential mess of the liquid one
one im leaning towards is:
velvet soap
sard wonder soap
borax
washing soda
