Hi lovely ladies!!
Well I'm back and running after six weeks off with a stress fracture - the timing couldn't have been better though (LOL) with DH in NZ for 3 weeks, xmas and NY!! Now I and my 2nd week back and it feels like I never stopped! Which surprises me as I thought I'd need to start off slow and would have lost fitness and stamina, but no... right back to it!!! And loving every minute more than ever:)
How are is everyone else doing??

Good luck LIB!
I can only run of a morning before everyone else is awake (between 5.30 and 6.30am).
If I oversleep or the kids wake there is no other chance (which is why i'd love a treadmill, but that another story).
And DH has to go after work and race home for dinner or he misses out too!
It's a bit of a trick trying to find an hour but if you can it works well 90% of the time!

Trying Natures Way's new Protein Figure (as advertised by Michelle Bridges) after runs to help with muscle recovey, metabolic rate etc...Will see if I notice any difference after a month?! Currently running about 35km per week (5 x 7km runs) Would like to increase that to 42km a week over 5 day, but we'll just see how things go as I don't want to end up injured again.

Hi girls :welcome: Where is everyone? It's getting pretty quiet around here.
Well everything is going well for me with my running :) No more injury and not even a hint of pain where the stress fracture was, I am so glad I followed instruction not to run for 6 weeks even though it almost drove me crazy!
I am now running consistent 10km runs 5 times a week and have exceeded my goal above!!
I was hoping to lose a bit of weight (about 4 kg) but it's just not happening and have been using Natures Way's new Protein Figure powder/supplement and have noticed a really improvement in muscle recovery - not getting the achiness that I was getting previously when I went to bed and woke up of a morning. Of courses I can be sure it's the Figure but it's coincidental otherwise?! So not too worried about the weight loss, as I need to fix my diet a bit :blushing: but will work on that in coming months. Just enjoy the simple pleasure of running at the moment

Hey Em, I've not been on here much but thought I'd pop in and say HI! :)
I have not been running much but yesterday I did go, by myself (without DD in pram) and did the podcast for c25k w5d2, so the 2 8 min segments and I was really happy I did it no worries after not having run for a few weeks. I ran a different route too which I think helped as I was not bored with the same old scenery.
I'm hoping I get back into a good routine of running ev second day, I will try too anyway :)
As for losing weight, do you even need to lose any weight?! I remember you posting a pic here a while back and I don't think you had any to spare Running 5 times a week is keeping you fit, don't worry about your weight (IMPO!) :)

Hey peainapod :) Fitness is a funny thing isn't? How you can not run for a while, but can ease back into it if you were fit to begin with! It's always harder for someone who has never done it. Running by yourself is also a pleasant change when you are use to pushing a pram - it a whole different feel!
Does the C25k podcast talk you through your entire run? I am curious as to how it works??
No I don't need to lose any weight...I'm feeling strong and healthy and happy as I am. It was just a post christmas/new years though after over induging and my clothes feeling a little tight (was also not running over the holiday break) but am feeling great now i'm back on track, so need not worry about weight.

It is great running by myself, although the pram is great for throwing a jacket into after warming up in the cooler weather!
The C25K podcast plays a chime when you are supposed to walk/run.
Did a 20 min run last night, 2.9km so whilst not really fast I am pretty happy :) Glad I am getting back running again!

Hmm...can't wait to run in the cooler weather! I struggle with heat and love that ice cold feeling of running in winter :) I wear the same running clothes in winter as I do summer (knee length tights and a singlet top) I can't run with a jumper or jacket. I did my morning 10km run this morning at 7am just an hour and a half later than I usually go, and it was already too hot with the sun fully out! I do like running during the day in winter and am hoping to be doing some 16 and 20km long run on the weekend by then.

Peainapod 2.9km in 20 min is too bad at all!

Totally agree, I love running in the winter, summer running sucks! Although I have been running in the heat this week and trying to keep to the shady side of the street!
16 and 20 km runs, wow that is a long time to be running, 1-2 hrs (shorter I guess if you run faster than me lol).
I think I need to work on my speed, I could run faster but like to play it safe and not run too fast so that I don't get too tired and stop running. It's all mental, isn't it!

I try to run at a consistent pace, as I can run much longer and further when I do. I'm not too worried about speed - I think I do ok (a typical 10km run takes me 50 mins and 12km 60 mins) so I have a pretty consistent 5 min/per km pace, when I first started back at running after a long break two years ago it was about 7 1/2 min/per km and I can sometimes manage an 8km run at a 4 1/2 min/per km but find that draining. lol
As my stamina and endurance increased so did my speed, naturally and without any effort from me. However I have trouble following any running training guides that requires any speed work or fartleks - they kill me! I can handle hills if I maintain pace, for me it's all about finding that comfortable zone just above comfort if that makes sense? I need to feel i'm working, breathing hard, pushing, but not so i'm breathless or tire my muscles beyond their usual ache. Yep your totally right it is all mental!!!! LOL
I did 60km this week ( 6 x 10km) and feel great so am going to start next weekend building my weekend long runs first to 12, the 14, 16km over the next few months. I have done a few 10km fun runs now and am aiming for a half marathon in july/aug. I turn 37 this year and want to run a full marathon before I turn 40 :) It's top of my bucket list! I am reading a great and inspiring book at the moment by ultra marathon runner Dean Karnazes called "Confessions of an all night runner ultramarathon man" it's great, I love books on running, they are my favourite, but also like cycling books, even though I don't ride - Lance Armstrong, Cadel Evens, Tour De France etc.... I guess it's the inspirational stories behind the people as much as the sport.
Thoughts of triathalon cross my mind from time to time but I'm a hopeless swimmer! I also love work out DVD's like The Shred and Tai Bo, I find them fun.... ha ha... but i'd probably never go to a gym or aerobics class...... funny the things we like and don't and what inspires us... sorry i'm rambling a bit this morning, these things were running through my mind this morning on my run and it's nice to share them with other runners.
I read a post that you will start trying for another baby soon!!! How wonderful peainapod! Will you run in your pregnancy?

Don't apologise for rambling! It's interesting :)
I hadn't really thought about running while pregnant, I guess I will at the start anyway, I guess once I get bigger it maight not be such a good idea but I have read of people doing it so why not? :)

Well, I got back on the wagon several weeks ago. I injured myself about 3 months ago, and only recently saw someone about it. I tore the tendons all down the outside, and under my foot, any wonder I was in agonizing pain each run!

Anyway, was told not to run... but I've come so far :( So I still am, it is healing gradually, and I don't have staggering pain anymore. I have a lot of weight to loose, and last time, running was amazing for it. It made me feel great, and it was effortless once I found my rhythm (just as you describe above emwill.)

So i repeated week 7 of the c25k, as, everything was just getting to me. Lack of sleep, ect. So will try week 8 next week. I'm struggling to find a good rhythm. Although I've started adding some speed to some intervals, which has been nice.

peainapod - I would have loved to have tried to run through one of my pregnancies, but had bleeding with all of them, so decided it wasn't worth the risk. Had I have not had bleeding I think I would have attempted it (perhaps not in the summer). There is also a lot more information out now about running and pregnancy with more women now continuing to run right through their pregnancies!

leej - ouch that injury sounds painful :( I hope it heals quickly and that you can continue running. I also hope the running help reduce your stresses, and helps with your lack of sleep etc. How old is your little one now? You have two kids don't you? A boy and girl? How are you managing to find the time to run at the moment? It's hard to find time for yourself isn't it?

I am on the good end of it now, thanks emwill, I mainly have pain when I rest it, so need to keep moving all day. I don't have much pain while running anymore either.

Spot on :) ds is almost 3, dd almost 6 months! She is up very early, so I head out for a run with her in the pram, while the boys sleep. Sometimes, I make dh stay home with both kids before he heads to work in the mornings, I go every second day, so it's not too bad. He can see how much my mood improves when I am running, so is happy to support me.
I was going when they went to bed of an evening, but it is too easy to make excuses by then, so at about 4 weeks in, I sat down and said I'd like him to stay here while I go. He was happy with that :) I'm generally back by 7.30 in the morning anyway. lol

peainapod, I stopped running abruptly after I miscarried, I couldn't bring myself to run after that, worrying I'd done something. There are so many women out there running while pregnant, so it can't be too bad!

leej - Ahh.. I figured you must be sneaking out of a morning, it's about the only time mum's of young kids have both the time and energy!
I sneak out about 5.30am and DH is supportive too, but I know he likes me to go durning the day on weekends so we can sleep into together for a bit. Problem is i'm a morning person (often awake from 4am) and he's a night person - I'm in bed by 9pm and him not till 11pm, them i'm up at 5.30am and him at 7am, so we don't get alot of quality time with just the two of us with the kidlets. Also he runs after work so it's the only way it works for us both - it took a while to figure it out and we also try to do weekend runs/rides together with the kids which is so fun! He usual rides with one in the bike trailer, I run with one in the pram and the two oldest ride/scooter or skateboard - we make a fine little posse along the forshore together :)
What sort of pram are you running with? Do you run streets or paths?

Hi ladies, reading all of your posts are giving me itchy feet, I've got 2 weeks til my 6 week check up and I'm hoping to get the all clear, so that I can start running again.

Emwill, I also had a stress fracture in my foot (thanks very much late pregnancy), so I'm getting over that atm too, but it feels good now, so fingers crossed I'll be clocking up the km's and reporting in here soon.

Better go, grumble-guts is looking for another feed.

Take care,
Jodi

He's just lovely Em, he's sort of got day and night sorted now, so we're only waking (touch wood) 2 or 3 times a night for a feed and a nappy change (he is a champion poo'er, lol). I thought I might feel as though I'd finished having babies after having him, but nope I'm still clucky and he's just started smiling, which has just made me even cluckier, lol. Now I just have to convince DH that we need to give him a little playmate;)

I didn't end up running at all during this pregnancy and as a result stacked on 25kg's!! I've lost 10 of those since his birth 4 weeks ago (most of it in the first few days, so I must have been retaining a lot of fluid), but I've got 15 to go and I know that once I start running they'll drop off. I'm not worried about my weight, but I just can't wait to get back into my running clothes again.

The extra weight ended up giving me my stress fracture right at the base of my second smallest toe, but on top of my foot, if that makes sense? Made it very hard to get around towards the end of the pregnancy. Luckily it seems to have healed and I'm walking on it no worries now.

Thank you for the offer to read Dean's book, but I've got all of the books he's written so far, he's very inspiring, isn't he? Have you read '50 marathons in 50 days'? If you want to borrow any of his other books, let me know and I'll post them to you.

LeeJ, that injury sounded really painful, glad it seems to be healing for you. I'm the same as you, if I wait til DH gets home and the kids are in bed, I tend to just want to flake on the lounge rather than hit the pavement, so it looks like we're all up at the crack of dawn together, shame we don't all live closer or we'd have quite a little running group, haha.

Well DD1 has conjunctivitis so is home from school (she started Prep this year), she's bummed that her eye is making her feel miserable, but even more bummed that she's missing school, so I'm going to go and sit and watch Charlotte's Web with the kids while bubby is sleeping.

Take care all,
Jodi

10km run this morning pushing DS (2.5 year old) in the pram :) I get some quiet bemused looks but figure it due to my 'monster truck' pram which is 10 years old, been through 3 kids and still trucking along! I have often wondered what it would be like to run with a new age running pram - they look so light and easy to steer...but since there are no more babies on the horizon for me and my baby will soon be running himself there isn't much need except for occasions like this morning. Well at least I know i'm getting a good work out with all the weight of the monster truck and 2.5 year old!

Well done! I'm wanting to work up to the 10km's this time :)

I was doing my 25 min runs this week for c25k, but decided to stay out so the boys could sleep in (had miss 6 months with me.), so did an extra run, and stopped off at maccas, and hung out there for a while! haha It was so good to just go though, not have to be back in time or anything.

I'm using a mountain buggy terrain, the new one. It is very very light and airy. WOnderful suspension, and so easy to steer. You can pick them up quite cheap second hand, because there isn't a big market for them. The only thing that would make it perfect, is bring the wheels inline with the pram, and having interchangable small wheels, for shopping trips haha!
I generally run paths, into the local gardens, and then a bit of road, then paths again haha

The injury was pretty nasty Jodi, but of course, I finally go and have it looked at it, and I'm on the mend. I'm hardly getting pain now at all. Sounds like yours was pretty full on too though! I put on about 15kgs (I'm overweight though), only lost 3 after the birth, wtf! She was bloody 3.8 pounds at birth! So far I've lost 5.5kg's. Which I'm pretty proud of!

I'm starting to break thorugh in to the 'this feels fricken great' part of running, yippeee! :D

Pregnancy and weight gain is so different for each person and baby - I gained a massive 27kg with my first and only 11kg with my second and somewhere in between with the next two?! But all my babies were around 8 to 9 pounds? It always took me a good 12 months to lose the weight too.
Sounds like your doing really well leej!!
It's pouring rain here today so no run for me :) I know you can run in the rain and i don't mind occasionally but not when it's pouring. Also i'm not good at taking rest days so these days force me to rest.
DH and I have decided to change back to a vegeterian diet again, we were both vegeterians for many years but started eating meat when our eldest child was a toddler to give him a more balanced diet (that was 14 years ago). Anyways I have two children that don't eat meat (11year old dd, and 2 year old ds) and two that do,but we all eat fish and eggs so it shouldn't be too hard. I will still cook meat for my two children that eat it twice a week, so they don't miss out as well. I have a good knowledge of nutrition and know how to get protein and iron for non meat sources so there are no issues there either. I just need to get a few more vegetarian cook book as all mine have gone missing over the years?!

I'd love some vego ideas for protein and iron... ds won't eat meat, besides a little ham/bacon, and I don't think we can really consider that a protein haha

If you’re a lacto-ovo vegetarian, you’ll likely get sufficient protein from eggs and dairy without even trying, but the best sources aside from them are nuts (Be Natural Nut Delight Bars rock!), Tofu ( buy the already flavoured one and you can't go wrong with it, or marinate the plain one to suit your meal - satay, honey & soy, sweet chilli) also the Sanatarium vegetarian range is awesome!! Tinned and cold products (Veggie sausages - curried with rice, and their veggie NOT burgers are yummy) also canned bean and pulses (Chickpeas instead of chicken in butter chicken, brown lentil instead on mince in a sheperds pie). Slow cookers are great for cooking vegetarian ;) Oh and the iron is great in tofu, chickpeas and hummus.

oh, I should have specified...

Dairy and soy free and failsafe bwahahaha, that's why it's a bit tricky!

We do lots of beans and pulses. But being tomato free makes life a bit hard.

Wow that would be hard! Maybe you could give me some tips!! Especially for kids, as i'm use to cooking for adult vegetarians but not children and many of my dishes are currys or spicy!
What milk do you use rice, almond, coconut? I think been soy free on top of meat and dairy free would be extremely hard!
I have just made a Butter Chickpea and vegetable curry for dinner - it smells so good I can't wait!
