Just curious..

Is it a financial factor, time, availability, fit..

:)

ETA: Non-judgmental discussion please!

When I do use sposies (less and less often- in fact rarely now!) it is usually now because I haven't been organised enough to wash my cloths (or the weather has sprung some rain on me like this weekend!)

So definitely time factor.

Hmmmm, I'm lazy to an extent. We only use them at night and going out now.
Gabrielle wears them at kindy though. SHe is kind of toilet training at the moment so is usually naked.
Got to get hold of a night nappy for Sarah.
Gabrielle tends to rash up badly in cloth though regardless of how often she is changed. Sarah, so far, hasn't had the same problems.

I've used them off and on during Izzy's nearly 2 years... We started using them when living with my in-laws as it became a major issue to them(washing our cloth nappies in our washer.. but in their house.. *shrug*) and then I used them off and on for a lazy factor, plus we didn't have many mcn's - just kissaluvs and prefolds..
We haven't bought any in months now(6?), due to the money issue and me *trying* to save a bit, plus the gross-factor of them got to me, even though their convenience was nice :p

i havent usaed them for ages but i went shopping the other day and forgot to pack nappies, so i had to buy some cause he did a crap and didnt think itd be wise to leave him in it till we got home. So i used the packet for nights until they are gone, then it'll be back to full time cloth.
ETA: If i do have to buy them i only buy huggies

I used them with my girls before finding out about mcn's as i found terry flats just didn't work as well as disposables and caused nappy rash.

I used them till DS was about 18mths old as I didn't know about MCN. I think initially the time factor and laziness stopped me from using flats and I didn't really research it and just got told by everyone to use sposies. I used huggies also.

DD has not worn a sposie yet.

we only use them if we're going on holiday and won't have a washing machine. so two weekends away so far, and on our overseas trip it will be mcn at mum's and sposies in hotels.

i must say i'm not looking forward to him being in them but sometimes convenience is important!!

I know I'm a "dark horse" - Liams been in full time sposies for the past 4 months.

I suffered bad morning sickness.  I was vomiting all day/ every day.  I told DP I couldn't do cloth for now and he was fine with it.

And now...Liam won't let me use cloth on him anymore.  I'm hoping to start TT early next year though so Liams time in nappies is hopefully limited.  Little baby in the belly will be in cloth mostly and posies when out.

I've kept my stash as I still intend to use them, just not on Liam anymore.

Izzy went through a phase where she didn't want to use cloth either.. Then one day she just decided it was ok again.. - Liam might as well... if you were wanting to encourage it :)

I use them at nights at the moment coz cloths just dont cut it and im not prepared to pay for nappies when i can make perfectly good ones. I have 1 night nappy so far but broke my needle so havnt made another yet.

I used to use spoies bcoz i couldnt hang things on the line, 1. it was in the shade and 2. i have a bad back and couldnt reach up t hang them out.

Now that the weather is nicer though i plan to use them almost full time whenever possible coz i have had my back worked on and can finally reach the washing line YAY ;D

we do nights and the occassional day sleep too if i think they will rip of the mcn.
i take sposies in the anppy bag to shops just in case but i also take mcn, i onlytake sposies cos with 2 in nappies it gets rather bulky with too many mcn

I am using them full time now- even at night! I have managed to cut out DS night bottles that he was addicted to and were making him piss for Australia- I was using sposies then, and changing halfway thru night. Now night napies last till morning. YAY!

On and off for nights....a nappy would work for us, then it wouldn't, then I'd find something else that works.  Right now we aren't using them at all.  I do have a packet here, but it's really just a back up...if I don't have any nappies and I'm at home, I use flats, but I do have one that is in my nappy bag because its that extra just in case nappy...you know if you've been out longer than you thought or you have a case of poo poo poo everywhere.

I used them til bubs was about 2 months and I finally gave in and bought an MCN and was hooked. Then I only used some part-time when I didn't have enough MCN. And Glen used them when I was in hospital with my leg cause he had his hands full doing all the house stuff, looking after Bodikins and visiting me everyday.

Now I have enough of a stash, I don't use them. I hate buying them, it's just dead money. And I don't like the gel chemical stuff in them. It doesn't rain here often so we shouldn't ever have a need for them.

Never ever? personally I dont think there is anything wrong with sposies if they are used very occasionally, in the way that people use paper plates and cups etc.

Would you still use mcn if your bubs had gastro??? Ewwww I wouldnt lol

I use them at night because Eva out-pisses everything. unless I want to wake her up two or three times at night.

.. but someone would need to wake me up too.

Currently working on my own night time nappies, but that's progressing way slowly.

Id use MCN and have with gastro, my 8 month old bub isnt on solids yet, so every change is a poo, and it doesnt bother me..

He has only ever had a few sposies on cause he had thrush and I didnt want to spoil my mcn (I didnt know alot then). I still have that packet here, of NB that I bought 'just incase', hehe..
Nothing against sposies at all here, I have used them with my other kids on occasions, and sometimes more, but I feel guilty even thinking about using them now, as I cant justify wasting the money when I have such a great stash, iykwim, I could use that $15 on a book for one of the older kids or something.

I am contemplating taking a packet of sposies away with me for the weekend, just for convenience.  I am on holiday too and washing is not really something I enjoy.

I think I will take MCN and buy sposies if I get desperate though.

See, since looking into the environmental effects of disposables, I just can't do it any more. That and the huge mountain created by every baby every year which won't break down for centuries.

Plus for me it is now an ick factor. I touch a sposie (I work for a family who have their baby, same age as Phoenix, in sposies) and it feels too plastic to me.

I know that some people don't mind using them; I know some people love em. I just can't tie a plastic bag full of chemical gel to my son's genitals how that I know about MCN and have so many.

And meh. Gastro. We had that 3 weeks ago. I was changing his nappies AND his clothes hourly. Never crossed my mind to use a sposie. Guess it's just the way you view it. :) (Plus, paper plates biodegrade, and sposies don't.)

haha maybe you wouldnt have needed to change his clothes if he was in a sposie! LOL

I know what you are saying- the baby that I nanny for has huggies. In her room they have boxes and boxes of them stocked up- (they are RICH). They do feel plasticky and papery. The thing that I hate about them though is that I hardly even feel i need to change her! They never seem full, which some people might think is a bonus, but to me that grosses me out because it means that the baby is more likely to be carrying around lots and lots of wee without us really knowing.

u cant wash nappies at a laundromat, when we 1st moved to brisbane we had to use one every week as we didnt have a washer and there was a sign on the wall i cant remember exactly what it said but something along the lines of you werent allowed to wash dog bedding or anything that was covered and anything too digusting......... there was staff there watching to make sure nothing to bad went into there washers..... i dont know rules might be different now.......

my mother in law wouldnt let me wash madis nappies in her washer, out washing machine broke a while back and wasnt working for a week and i was doing my washing at her house and she said i could wash anything but dog bedding and madis nappies in her washing machine.... lucky my mum let me use hers.

It's not disgusting. It's natural.
I believe a few people on here have used laundromats before, I have heard it mentioned a bit, when they go away on holidays and there is no washing machine :)

When I was growing up, we had a small apartment sized washer, and used the laundromat for things like bedding.. If we were sick or such, and vomited, we'd wash those things in teh laundromat washing machines - how is that any different? There was no sign saying "don't wash vomited articles" etc..

Maybe it just depends on where you are.. because honestly, if the washer isn't CLEAN itself after the load is done, there has to be something wrong with it and it wouldn't be providing clean clothes either :S
