Holy crap Kobi!! LOL - did he do a dissertation on it?
That's almost more references than my DH is compiling during his PhD.

Meh, I'm sure not going to bother reading them hehe.

I am not sure they were for your benefit Titania.
'Twas the OP who asked to be spammed.

Looks like Kobi and her DP did their research, can deny them that :P

No
I guessed it from the fact that i had never heard of it being done and i know none of my family or extended family or hubbys family extended family and asked a few friends and nope they dont know anyone either. :P

as far as most of us are aware it a religious or medical thing.

maybe its different in different countries??

I guess its a very personal choice anyway, never really though that much about it as it never concerned me.

WOW
I had no idea that people chose to get their sons done without a medical reason, I must be so ignorant

I truley had never heard of anyone getting it done to look like their dad or just because I thought it was a medical thing or religious thing, I am really shocked and suprised, Oh well you learn things every day I guess, perhaps where I come from it has never been discussed and I have never met anyone who had it done so never really though about it...

Oh and this isnt disrespecting anyone I am truly honestly suprised..

Do you ask every man you meet?
I bet you $50 you know at least 10 men who are circ :P
But any hoo what I wanted to say was "farking fark fark" Kobi, thats one hell of a list.......

I'd imagine so as the Muslims came about as an offshoot of the Jewish race, when Abraham had Ishmael, Ishmael would have been circumcised as a baby, makes sense really.

indigenous Australians too also do it. When I grew up in Alice I had friends who had to go bush...

Wow, I didnt know that.
And how long had they been separated from the rest of the world, like 40.000 years?.
I wonder why they started doing it, religion as we know it has only been around for 5000 odd years.
Can someone tell me why australian aboriginals do it?

Erk... I read about it, and I can't remember. Am just in the middle of making dinner - will try and find it again later...

Oh - I'm pretty sure it was/is seen as a rites of passage into manhood - but can't remember why... more later..

rites of passage is it. I remember my friends going away as boys and coming back as men. I am not too sure about the specifics though. They used to go away for a while too.

Yes, but where did they get the idea from?
I mean, I understand a first kill, or some kind of a mental or physical trial, but why circumcision? Where did that come from?

no idea! Possibly a cleaning thing living out bush in the very beginning or it might be to do with the 'dreamtime'. I think it would be very hard to trace back as to why anything really started. Even though it was stated to circumcise boys in the Koran and the Jewish bible (not sure of the name of the jewish bible), someone had to start it and scribe it down somewhere first and really how do we know why they did they do it first.

Yeah, Susan, I was thinking that myself.
I wonder where the idea came from? Maybe it is to make the penis look like it is permanently erect without actually being that way?
What ever the reason, it cant be all bad, as I am guessing that it was a man who came up with the idea...........

I may have this wrong but I think some men in the forces get snipped as well for hygiene. I had a day surgery years ago and there were a whole heap of army guys there in the recovery room groaning and moaning, they'd all just been done.

All very interesting.
This is a little personal but my PP (is that right for previous partner?!?) had an accident and as a result had a circ at 27yrs old. He had a general and day surgery to have it done, we were together at the time. He says there is no difference in how sex feels. Sorry if this is TMI. I am not saying I am for/against circs (he had no choice- it was a medical decision) but from a sexual point of view he said he couldnt feel a difference before and after.

Wow!
I have only just had the chance to come back to this thread.
I asked to be spammed & spammed I was!

I'm going to compile a list of the most relevant info & links to email to my SIL. I'm not sure she is going to be too impressed with the reading, but at least then I can say that I gave her the chance to make a full educated decision & hopefully it is the right one for her.

Thanks for all the info guys!

Thanks for sharing, I think this may be very reassuring for anyone in regards to sexual function, no one who's child has had to be done for medical reasons wants to be scared into thinking he'll be missing out terribly.

KIm - that information from WHO has been covered and it really isn't applicable or relevant here! That is from studies that are particularly to do with the prevalence of HIV amongst African men - and is mostly to do with Adult circumcision - in order to minimise their high HIV and AIDS numbers...

You only have to read a little bit of it to know that. They are not pertinent to this thread. They are predominantly referring to studies in Sub-Saharan Africa...

Hi all,
I am just wondering of any of you can point me in the right direction of some good, clear information on the pros & cons of circumcision please?
My SIL is due to have a baby boy in a few weeks & has raised the question of circumcision. She wants to get it done, but only because (and I quote) "i dont wana be cleaning my little mans bizzy bits till hes bigger".
I have very strong opinions on the matter, but she seems gungho so I want to try to spam her with as much info as possible so she can make a proper informed decision.

I obviously don't want to start a debate, so no conversation will be entered into on the the matter, I was just hoping you girls might be able to provide some good info as I haven't been able to find what I want on Google.

So spam me!

This is the original request...............looking for information, that is all I have provided so not sure why/how it is irrelevant? Its information and factual from a pretty reliable source???
