hi
i have never BF for this long DS is almost 23 mths.
Is it normal for them to increase their milk, he seems to be asking for milkie every 5 minutes at the moment and some days I am feeding him almost all day then others he may go 6 hours?
he had also started only nursing 2-3 times in the night but has gone back to several times ..

He is crying for it as if he desperatley needs it all the time and as soon as he nurses half an hr later he is moaning for more..

someone mentioned a growth spurt at 2 yrs could this be it? and if so does it last long?
thanks xx
(not that i am bothered but its proving a little difficult to do anything with the other kids lol)

DS is only 16 month but i class that as longerish term bf.
Anyway in honesty i believe it varies soooo much. Like everything no two are the same. My friends little boy is 12 months and feeds twice a day...my son can sometimes go 6 hours and not want any and other times its half an hour.....and in all honesty i dont even know how much he gets cause sometimes i dont feel any let down.
Hee hee so im not really much help.

Could be a growth spurt. My DS always fed many many times a day until I cut him down when first pregnant. He only asks a few times a day now, but I think that will change once ive got milk rather than colostrum.
I say just go with it, they know what they need :D

Cait is now 25 months and still breastfeeding. Totally normal from what I've heard/seen. I think somewhere there was a chart showing breastfeeding frequencies from around the world, based on ages. From around 2 years old, it was easily every hour or two all 24hrs in a day!

Cait sure is driving me crazy right now(esp. since she's crying on the floor at my feet - she just swapped sides 4 times in 2 minutes.. SO OVER IT! LOL). She's wanting to nurse every 30-60 minutes, and trying to distract her isn't working! I'm happy to breastfeed, but it's getting to be a bit too much for me right now!

Sam is nearly 22 months and has 3 feeds a day and no changes of late. I just wondered could it be teething with you liitle man? Their 2 year old molars come in at some stage around that time I think maybe??
Sam does use BF for pain relief/comfort if he falls/hits his head etc. so if he had tooth pain I'm sure he would be asking for it all the time!

Bub is 20 months and goes through similar stages - the most she will go is 2-3 hours without a feed and feeds all night as well every 2-3 hours. But some days for a few days she decides that she wants booby every 1/2 hour and its sooo frustrating.

But now I just make sure Ive got a book and remember it will only last a few days hopefully.

Dont forget youve been under some stress lately and you and bub have been in unfamiliar surroundings and back and forth so he may just be having a reaction to that? xx

DD is 15 months and feeding like a newborn again! She is asking to feed in the most inappropriate places - like standing in line at the post office LOL.

yep my DD is going through the same thing - nowadays i can't sit on the lounge unless i'm prepared to give her a feed LOL

i'm trying to get out the lounge habit though - i don't mind feeding her (even if she wants a lot) but not just cause of where i happen to be sitting - so now i'm trying to limit it to just in her bed or in the upstairs loungeroom

ROFL!!! Same here.. Cait thinks any time I sit down or pen up the laptop, it's time to "nu-nu" as she calls it LOL.. Oh I hate it - I can't sit down anywhere near her!

Izzy took a pic of us earlier.. in the hallway breastfeeding, on the floor - I sat down there to pick up some little toys(my little pony toys are SO small and EVERYWHERE atm), and she came over and wanted to nurse!

Everytime i sit near the couch he says milkie or go in the bedroom ;)
at least it seems normal, i guess he was affected a lot when i was in and out of hospital and its the first time he has really fed anywhere but at home as he is fussy like that but he wanted to nurse there too which is really strange.....

They pick up on your mood though and i think all the kids have been affected by recent events :(

i have never fed for that long myself (not by choice - my first two started refusing the breast at around 8-9 months, possibly b/c of my AF returning, but DS2 is 11 months and still going strong), but my sister has, and she is having the same thing at the moment. she reckons at that age, ie, older - when they are having solids too -it, breastfeeding, is more of a comfort thing than a hunger thing, so things that might make them feed more often are developmental factors (kids always want more reassurance at certain developmental stages, particularly when they are learning new things like crawling, walking, talking, and other less obvious things), illness, teething, stress, or any external changes in their lives, and also thirst, if it is hot and they don't drink much water. and she always seems to know this stuff - i think she reads lots. hope that helps!
