What could it be? Should I get it checked?

Every now and then I get sore knees, today has been the worst by far. Walking hurts, but it's not unbearable, getting to or up from the floor is agony and forget climbing stairs, because that just makes me want to cry and driving is painful too.
What could it be? Should I get it checked out? It's in the joints and also above my knee seems to be swollen(left is worse than the right, but both are swollen.

Get it checked. Not sure what it could be but joints like knees have to be looked after because they take a lot of stress. As we get older a minor joint issue now can turn into something worse. Best get on it early.

Thanks, I thought my dad was overreacting. I guess I need to get a few things sorted, so guess I need to just bite the bullet and see my gp:(. Gah, she's lovely but I still hate going!

Just finished up at the gp, it's tendinitis and he's recommended a few sessions of physio to help ease the pain

Eeks? I thought for any kind of sports injury/joint injuries you're meant to use COLD? Cold for the first few days, then warm/hot?
That's what I've been told at least lol
No idea on easing pain - just take nurofen around the clock as it helps with inflammation..

As far as i understand hot opens the blood vessels and cold constricts them, so more blood helps healing of tears etc but less blood reduces swelling so it depends what the actual issue is.

voltaren!! i love voltaren. its a life saver. i just make sure that i keep the joint mobile (stiffening makes it even worse) and do some light excersice when your up to it. in the shower is good because the warm water helps with the pain. also, deap heat, the rub stuff, helps.
