Whats the process for being diagnosed with depression (pnd)? Is it a matter of going to the gp, and if they say yes try medication

Is there a starting point for medication - though I guess there are many different types.

Feel free to pm me if you dont want to post here.

Just have a discussion with your GP about what is going on and they may suggest medication, or just counselling. I know when I was depressed I was first referred to a psychologist and he later suggested medication (neither of which did anything for me!). Personally I hated anti-depressants - I think they made me worse. There are a long list of side effects on them. Although I am sure they work for some people.

the starting point is answering the Edinburgh scale (questions). you should be able to find it online.

the next point is a GP sending you to a Psych for assessment or just counselling.

i agree, the scale is a wonderful resource. another person to talk to is you MCHN, they know all the signs and solutions.

depending on what score you get a different approach maybe needed. Sometimes just some counselling, some CBT therapy, medication or maybe all three
