the only problem I had was when the babies got bigger, they would sometimes kick me really hard and it would hurt a bit. Nothing major, except for once where it did hurt for a while so I just went back to a liquid diet, as it was hard to keep solid food down for probably 12 hours.

But, I managed to have it with 4 pregnancies and I still to this day believe we would not have our family had I not have had it done (I have PCOS, that mixed with the weight did not help my fertility).

So very true!! And you know, if you weren't scared i'd be worried! There are probably heaps of questions you want to ask, so please fire away. I'm happy to answer anything about it because as far as i'm concerned the more knowledge that others have, the better it is.

From my limited knowledge of lap banding I have concluded this.

They are fantastic if you have problems controlling volume, you simply eat too much of the right foods.

If you have a problem with what you eat (high fat, high sugar, high calorie foods) then it isn't much help.

Getting the surgery done is about $15,000 if you don't have PHI, about $3000 if you do (depending on what level of cover, who your with etc). You also need to go on a liquid diet for 3 weeks prior to surgery to shrink your liver.

With any surgery there are risks, so its really worth researching.

People can get lapbands and still stay obese (I have seen it) by eating the wrong foods and not exercising. Those people are also more prone to having complications (such as "slipping" the band, and vomiting).

You need to want to change you life and be dedicated to doing it long term (It may take a couple of years to achieve your desired weight and then you need to tone your body of excess skin aswell).

The Lapband is a fantastic TOOL in helping you lose weight, but you need to be the right person for it (volume person) and in the right mind set.

There was a speaker on ABC radio the other day who wrote a fantastic book about her lap band and weightloss journey, unfortunately I can't remember her name atm.

I would suggest first trying a "weight loss management" course through a hospital. I know the Wesley private in brisbane does one, as does the Mater (not sure where you are based?). Basically its a 6 month (sometimes 12 month) program, including meal replacement shakes, and weekly dietitian appointments. They also do exercise plan appointments, measure BMI and fat index and help you change your lifestyle (instead of just losing weight). It is defiantly a good place to start, they help keep you on track :)

Pretty much waht Merla said :)

BUT it depends on your private health service ;)

Seriously look into HBA they have a scheme with certain hospitals and dr's and by opting by one of those hospitals and dr's instaed of what would have cost me $3000 out of pocket ended up costing me just under $900 :D

I will be going through the same surgeon and getting reconstructive tummy tuck and the price i will have to pay is around $1000, for a tummy tuck :O

Seriously have a look on the hba website and work out who near you does it and does the exyclaim scheme ;)

Basically you are better off going on it. I only got it for myself and not my family as i couldnt afford it :(

You will need to wait the 12mths as its classed as a long term problem (not the right wording but ykwim)

As soon as your 12 mth wait is up you can have it done :)

Seriously the 12mths seems to fly by!
