bubs got a bad nappy rash on tuesday, she was in cloth all day tuesday, with fleece liners, and then all day yesterday the same, I put curash powder, and or sudocream, something that has always worked a treat with my other kids... but it got worse and worse, so I pulled out a sposie, and put her in that last night, I changed her half way through the night, as she pooped, and left her in sposies this morning too.... now the rash is clearing... is that a coincedence, or are the sposies better for rashes???

I don't know the hard facts, but I too have found that on occasion when dd has had really bad rash on her bottom, I have loaded her up with sudocream and put a sposie on overnight and its pretty much clear by the morning! Having said that, my dd actually gets rash down her legs from wearing sposies! So... good for clearing up nappy rash, not good for her ezcema!

It might be more a matter of a change in the type of nappy you use. So if she gets a rash in cloth change to sposies for a while and if she gets a rash in sposies change to cloth for a while iykwim.
Or it could just be that its a coincidence and the rash was clearing up anyway.

I do know that babies get rashes in sposies as often if not more than cloth. I also know that sposies are not an option for us and luckily we dont get rahes. We have had a rash once during some hard core teething. It never entered my mind to use sposies. I just wouldn't even consider it. I dont expect every one to be as hard line as me
Just giving you my perspective.

Common sense would tell me that a bunch of chemicals wrapped in plastic is going to give my sensitive skinned son a worse rash. But I also know that some babies never get a rash in sposies...just do whatever keeps your bubba rash free and happy :D

Don't feel bad nuddle. We haven't had a rash in months *fingers crossed* but I did use sposies once or twice if needed to clear it up, as well as loads of nappy free time.

God, don't feel bad!!!

Exactly...think of how many other people use compared to you....:O
If sposies can help you for a short period then use them for that!!

I found that if my kids start to develop a rash it is usually due to using suedecloth or microfleece inners too often. I switch to plain hemp or bamboo and the antibacterial qualities usually help to clear it up in no time. I always notice if I use my GK or other pockets too often we have issues.

Just do what works for your bub.

I find that caleb gets a rash when I use polar fleece liners, as soon as I stop using them it clears up.

What about silk liners...

Nuddle - it could be detergent residual that is giving bub a rash. Do a strip wash, use slightly less detergent if needs be for your loads aswell.
Get some raw silk liners as they work wonders with healing and preventing rashes.

And the age old phrase: Nappy Free Time :D

I dont know about the MCNs but the good old terry cloths used to give my Tom the most hideous rash, I started putting him in disposables, and he was fine after that.
Gremily might be onto something as well, try a gentler detergent, or making your own chemical free one :)

I second the changing liners thing.

DD gets a rash if I put her in nappies with fleece liners for too many days in a row. I've thought about using silk liners but they are REALLY expensive.

I hope you work out what is best for your bubs rash!

and here is me thinking the liners would be better to use.... maybe I stop using them again. Is curash powder ok to go on the mcn's??

It could just be a reaction to the fleece - remember they aren't a natural material.

I think a powder would ok on MCN. Cornflour is the cheapest and easiest option, with no added extras in it.

I got my silk liners from Baby Soft Landings for $3.50ea, they are the cheapest I've seen them. I have 4 and I'd highly recommend having just a few in your stash. It's not something you have to use all the time, but they're handy for times like this.

We use cornflour here too.

So easy to use as I just rub some on my hands and pat her butt while DD is running around nude.

Then when I can catch her I put her nappy on. With all the creams she gets it over everything in the house!

It works really well.

Different bubs will have different reactions to all the types of fabrics used in mcns and sposies. If Thomas got a hideous rash I'd sposie it overnight just to let some cream sink in - and to avoid the added warmth of all those lovely layers of modern cloth. Lot's of bare bum time too....

ditto to everything above; i've heard lots of advice about just changing whatever you're doing for awhile - cloth to sposie, manmade fibres to natural, etc etc.

also, if it's too cold for nappy-free time - why not use legwarmers? ie huggalugs, babylegs.. or close the bedroom door and warm it up with a column heater or something, or even the bathroom floor after you've taken a warm shower, door shut..

I wonder about the curash cream and powder you are using, I think it has petro chemicals and artificial chemical in it. Apparently we can absorb up to 80% of what we put onto our skin into our systems so my natropath recommends using only vegetable based products that you could safely eat (may not taste good though LOL). Have you tried a natural alternative like calendula cream (Weleda is my fave) and as a powder I've known people who use cornflour quite successfully (personally I've never used a powder on A, just cream so I cannot speak from personal experience). Good luck.

Sometimes a sposie is the only thing that will clear DD's rash up- it doesnt happen often though.... but we have to use them at night. During the day if she is rashy I just change her nappy's much more regularly use polar fleece liners & use cornflour & that fixes things up pretty quick. I have tried EVERYTHING when using cloth at night, but nothing will keep her rash free :( I find some fleece makes the rashes worse, but some are okay. I guess it depends how it has been processed. It is all a bit wierd really! But I buy a small quantity to try now before buying up big. I think we must be the only ppl in the world that raw silk liners dont work for, I bought 3 and they did nothing to help clear up the rash at all. And the bamboo seems to aggravate rashes too, which it shouldnt.... But she gets a different sort of rash from sposies if she wears them all the time too (which she did in between the pilchers (over terry's- just the exposed elastic being the problem) giving her welt like rashes, and our discovery of mcn!)
Anyways- there I go again running at the mouth! Just wanted you to know you arent the only one resorting to sposies from time to time

Just to second everyone else, Declan gets a terrible rash if I use fleece on his bum, as soon as I switch to another fabric it clears up fairly quickly :)

I wouldn't feel bad for using sposies while your little one's nappy rash clears up. I do what is best for our babies at the end of the day wether I use a sposy that is bad for the environment or not!

Wow i never knew there was a bad side to clothies!!!! This has really opened up my eyes to it. DD was in disposables totally from birth until she just started using the toilet last month (2/12) and only got nappy rash twice that whole time!!

Makes me think twice about those fleece liners too!!

I ended up using sposies, the nature ones, and a zinc and caster oil cream. It is heaps better, but a little bit is still sticking around. Its certainly opened up my eyes though to nappies with polyester lining too, think natural is better. Which is a shame, as my favourte ones the BG's are not natural

Nuds, weve had this problem from the start

Ive since discovered that anything that isnt natural (ie: fleece either polar or micro) makes his skin rash up within the hour! (you've seen the photos, havent you of his groin in full rash?)

I have also since discovered using flannellette (sorry, I can never spell that) liners the complete shape of the nappy does wonders, so thats what we do, I have cut and hand sewn (ffs) a heap of flanny and towelling liners, like the shape of the complete nappy, I lay it in over the boosters etc, and it works a treat..

HTH babe!
ooh, and I bath him in qv oil and thats seems to help alot also..

Ooh, lmao, if you do this, make sure none of the liner is poking out anywhere, cause that stuff, boy can it wick!! lol, else her singlet will get wet up to her armpits, and her pants, down to her ankle, lol..

I hope shes clearing now, kiss kiss poor baby Grace

I also have the feeling that the 'staydry inner' materials can easily cause nappy rash on DD's bottom, especially when she has a poo. For some polar fleece inners, even if I change it the second after she's done a poo, a huge rash will come up in no time. We now try to use fitteds as much as possible to avoid synthetic fabric touching her skin.

When she has a rash I give her nappy free time, cream treatment, avoid microfleece/suedecloth until it's cleared up, and occasionally use sposies to help the rash clear up.
